Tom Schemenauer is a singer, songwriter and performer currently living in South Reno Nevada, just a few miles down the road from Mount Rose Ski Area. In 2019 he retired as a financial advisor for Plan Member Services Corp. in Carpinteria California and a successful 41year career in the financial services industry.
He also is a baker and decorator of fine wedding cakes as well as creative and festive gingerbread displays at Christmastime. He also knows how to bake the flakiest and best tasting pastries you will find anywhere in the world. Tom enjoys skiing Mammoth and Mount Rose in the winter and hiking and running the trails above Lake Tahoe in the summer.
Tom has always loved the mountains and has been fortunate enough to have lived half of his 72 years in them. From the Crestline/Lake Arrowhead area of the San Bernardino’s in Southern California to the tiny mountain village called Mammoth Lakes in the eastern Sierras. Wherever he lays his head at night in the world, his heart will always be in Mammoth, always.
His Mammoth home was like a tree fort. Every window you looked out of you saw trees. The full moon shined into his bedroom and the snow glistened in the night. A song writers paradise. He really misses it but his head will always be filled with the friends and adventures he has had and continues to have there.
Growing up in the Torrance/South Bay area of Southern California he had many jobs one of which was a baker and cake decorator at Jensen’s Old Country Bakery in Blue jay California and still loves to bake but music is his true passion. He loves playing the acoustic guitar, harmonica and various percussion instruments while singing his songs about the sights, sounds and characters of the Eastern Sierra’s. Growing up in the 1967 “summer of love” with Sargent Pepper’s Lonely Heart’s Club Band, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Bob Dylan, Joe Cocker, James Taylor, Neil Diamond, the late great Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, the stones and his all -time favorite John Denver. When John passed away in a terrible plane crash in 1997, the music world lost one of the greatest songwriters-performers of all time. May God rest his soul. Much of tom’s musical style has been patterned after these rock heroes of the 60’s and 70’s.
It has been said that Tom has an “Earthy Folk” style. A fresh mix of acoustic country and folk. His songs reflect ballads and stories of the beautiful people and places of the Eastern High Sierra mountains that John Muir calls “The Range of Light”
Some of his favorite things include Marathon runs, downhill and cross country -skiing, surfing at my favorite spot “C” Street in Ventura California, Fly Fishing, Road and mountain bike riding, camping and hiking the trails in the Mammoth back country as well as above Lake Tahoe.
Some favorite venues Tom has played his music in include campfires at shady rest in Mammoth and June Lake campgrounds, The Whoa Neli Deli at Tioga Gas Mart, Mono Lake wilderness with Bob Tanner, Red’s Meadow Bar-B-Q’s, The Court House Stage in Bridgeport, Lone Pine Park, percussionist at various Mammoth Lakes High School drama presentations, Choir member and percussionist at South Reno Baptist Church, and entertaining at various assisted living facilities in Bishop, Redlands, and other Southern California and Nevada Cities. Those lonely resident’s feet begin to tap when the music begins, and some begin to sing along and long for any kind of outside human contact. God bless every one of them.
We are hoping that you love Tom’s music, are delighted with the places and people that he has written about, and will listen to someone who is pursuing his dream of recording and performing songs that come from his heart and sharing them with yours.
Thanks for listening and we hope to see you soon. May God bless you always!
